I have always enjoyed animals, especially dogs, and got my first Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1983. During college and veterinary school my showing was limited, but during that time I read everything I could on the breed, trained my first CD, earned my first conformation points and bred my first litter....I've been helplessly hooked ever since!
When I was able to become more active in the breed I selected my kennel name, TRENGATE, after the street in front of James Herriot's veterinary clinic in the famous "All Creatures Great and Small" stories.
My club activities include current membership in PWCCA and Cascade PWCC, and past involvement with Columbia River PWCC. I've been busiest with Cascade, having served in many positions and on a variety of committees over the years. During my time on the PWCCA National Board I was proud to have been on the Genetics Committee and to have been involved with the initial "set up" of PWCCA's Degenerative Myelopathy research project at that time.
Involvement in club activities and with other breeders is good for the welfare of our breed, since as a group we agree to abide by a Code of Ethics to keep the "Good of the Breed" first and foremost in our activities, and to help organize gatherings in which Corgi owners can participate in a variety of events throughout the year, where we can enjoy our dogs and common interests and friendship with other Corgi fans!
I've been varyingly active in breeding and exhibiting and over time have had the joy of handling many Corgis to their championships and a goodly number to points or better at specialties, the most famous being the THREE time National BOB and multiple regional winner Am/Can Ch. Jade Tree Penway Up Country CD, ROMX (Co-owned with Mary Day & Chris Johnson), and the most recent being homebred BISS GCh. Trengate Ruby Mist, (Co-owned with Helen Weise). Being active in the breed has resulted in many co-ownerships and opportunities to visit Specialties around the country, which not only is great fun, but has enabled me to more closely evaluate my own stock at home! It has also been a thrill and a great honor to judge puppy & veteran sweepstakes classes for several Corgi clubs over the years.
My Corgis are my friends and family members, not just show animals. When breeding I strive to balance all aspects of structure, breed type, health, temperament and working ability, to create an animal I am proud to keep and enjoy for myself, not as a "resale item". I am proud that many of my Corgis have finished championships and performance titles for others, and most importantly, been excellent and treasured, intelligent family companions.
Thank you for visiting my website and I hope you enjoy the photos of my beautiful Trengate Corgi family......present, past, and coming up for the future!
